What do you want from your life story, and what is preventing you from getting it?
My approach to therapy and coaching is active collaboration. In my own experience doing therapy work, I did not benefit from listening to myself talk with little to no feedback from the therapist in front of me. Working with me means entering into a dialogue about the issues you are grappling with, and I will provide as much feedback as you are interested in receiving. This does not mean I will tell you what to do, but I will discuss options with you, including things you may not have thought of. I will support you in coming to your own conclusions and trying on new ways of functionning.
I provide the expertise that comes from my training in
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Cognitive Processing Therapy
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- The Developmental model
And you provide the thoughts, feelings, and reactions that comprise your story.
Our work will begin with your answer to this question:
At the end of our time together, what will be different in your life?
What will be different in your life?
As a therapist and coach, I provide reaction to and analysis of your stated problems – and how I think we can get you to where you want to go. We will certainly discuss the past, to understand the origin of patterns, but we won’t dwell on what happened. Rather, we will focus our energy in both practical and creative ways, to get you “unstuck” –from ineffective coping strategies, unhealthy behaviors, and unhappy stagnation. In the words of my mentor, Doctor Peter Pearson, “Effective change requires insight plus action. Insight without action is passivity. Action without insight is impulsive. Insight plus action leads to clarity and power.”
